T0IM
UBERMORGEN.COM
T0IM connects reality-based photography and the pixel's non-information on the sub-level. The agents work, live and love in nuclear infrastructure (reactors, cooling towers). T0IM is a computer-game-like series of animations with characters wandering about in huge & surreal industrialized settings. Chimneys start to bend, tubes become fingers, tanks start to grow into gigantic monsters. It is fast & furious screenbased action. Hidden Object combined with influences from the e-boy universe, the "Testsuo Trilogy" and Ed Ruschas "Twentysix Gasoline Stations" Artist Book (1963).
Techniques used are classic UBERMORGEN.COM oldschool low-tech tools: gif animation, pixelated image/pixelpainting, bitmap converters, html-tables, web-colors, and hand-pixeled animation characters. T0IM was born into this world very dead indeed, black nuke and blinken lights. Something always seems to be utterly wrong and potentially dangerous. In T0IM this deadness comes alive, little creatures appear onsite, running around, jumping fences, climbing up chimneys, breaking through walls in a james-bond-like fashion. T0IM-BOY and T0IM-GIRL love to work in these nuclear environments. At the same time they are agents spying for the environmental lobbyists. Members of T0IM are usually dressed in pixel-ninja clothing, as the pixel is the best way of camouflaging oneself in a computer-manipulated environment. Sometimes, when they find hidden buttons in a nuclear power plant, they make buildings collapse or deactivate reactors. The pixelpeople of T0IM always make sure not to destroy their habitat – they are born onsite, they dwell onsite they never die onsite.
T0IM plays with asthetics of the glorious Tetsuo movies from the late 80s and early 90s. The theme of machine-man-machine was present then, and it is now still, but on a bit different terms. T0IM merges rather a whole plant with a group of postmodern de-individualized humanoids. It used to be a more or less unfulfillable wish for a human to become machine-like, the global information systems of the 21st century have rendered theses cravings useless as human thinking and machine computations have been irreversibly entangled.
